Nettet19. okt. 2009 · Discussion Starter · #1 · Oct 18, 2009. The engine is an Intek 17 hp in Troybilt tractor, about 10 years old. It blew out a lot of white smoke so I shut it down. I dug into it today. Symptoms include: fuel drained out of the cylinder when the plug was pulled, oil was very thin-full of fuel. Every since I got it it would backfire on shut off. Nettet13. feb. 2016 · Its is 23 hp with a Nikki carb. It stopped running last year because of bad gas I think. I drained all the gas and replaced it with fresh. It would start but was shooting gas and oil out of the exhaust. I cleaned the carb out and changed the oil and it did the same thing. I put a kit in the carb still did the same thing.

A dirty air filter will allow the engine to run but too rich. The clogged filter acts like another choke. But when the load is applied to the engine, it is too rich and so it dies.
